Week 13

What a beautiful day.  Daffodils and tulips are in bloom and many trees are budding.  The sky was clear as clear can be.  I enjoyed this tree and many others like it at lunch time.  There is nothing finer that the beauty that God has provided us.

Week 12

I have taken pictures of this barn previously, and was intrigued when I saw the 1953 Chevy in front of it.  I turned around to take a picture of it and while I was shooting, the owner of the car arrived.  He told me that the car was used in a photo shoot that morning and was happy that I liked his car.

The sun was better positioned in the morning than when I came upon the scene, but, as with any opportunity in taking pictures, one works with what one has with which to work.

Therefore, the first picture is full color and in the second picture I selected the car and desaturated the remainder of the picture.

Week 11

These are pictures for the photography group that meets in our subdivision once per month.  The challenge this past month was FOOD.  I had a little difficulty focusing on it and came up with two that will be submitted.  The third photo was a result of having fun on the computer.

Week 10

One of the sites that I visit online for photography has a Weekly Challenge" in which they tell you of what to take pictures during the coming week.  A challenge may be that the pictures have a particular color.  One time is was to take pictures with patterns.

Today, we went to Mary Alice Park, which is on Lake Lanier.  A beautiful day to sit and read or in my case take pictures.  I found two shot that qualify as patterns.  One of the buoys near the beach and the other was the edge of the retaining wall that has a concrete walkway next to the lake.

The next picture was taken from the path as we were leaving.

Week 9a

Here is a sampling of the buildings that were moved to Hurricane Shoals Park in Jefferson, GA.  Many are farm buildings built in the 1800s, while others, such as the church, the school house, and homes are there as well.

There is a covered bridge just beyond the property and a recreation are at the shoals.  Take I-85 North, exit 140, right on Dry Pond Road to the end, left on GA Spur 82.  Look for the park on the right.  I forgot to determine how far.

Week 9

We took a day trip to Sell's Mill in Hoschton, GA yesterday for a picnic.  I had seen this on a calendar and then checked it out on the Net.

The mill has a steel water wheel and must have thousands of rivets holding it together.  You will notice that the water is coming out of a pipe.  There is a cutoff valve at that point and if it were shut, the water would be diverted to the top of the wheel putting the wheel in motion.

The water comes from a dammed pond, which is about 250 feet up-stream, through an underground pipe.

The dam is made of what seems to be large granite block that were mortared together.

For more information on the mill, Google Sell's Mill Park

After we left the mill, we drove anther 15 miles to Hurricane Shoals Park, which was very interesting.  I will post some pictures later.
