Week 5 b

I put out some bird feed after the snow storm and this cardinal was one of the first to show up.  I set up the camera on a tripod on the patio, hooked up a remote that has a long chord to the camera and it was long enough to bring the other end into the house, where I could be comfortable.

This allowed me to get the camera closer and for me not being in view of the birds.  The camera was manual focused on the feeder and all I had to do is click the button on the remote.  I cropped this picture to have the cardinal close up.  I has a sunflower seed in its mouth.  Remember to click on the picture for a larger view of it.

This picture is the one from which I cropped the one above.  I shows more detail of the area surrounding the bird.

Week 5

Today was an interesting day.  We went to our grandson Ben's Basketball game at 9:00 am and after that, we had breakfast at a local restaurant, which turned out to be horrible.

We then took a quick trip to Ellijay, GA, which is about an hour from Cumming.  I wanted to take a picture of a water wheel that my co-worker, Natasha, told me that was a great setting.  After taking some pictures, we headed back to Cumming for our grandson Jack's Basketball game at 2:00 pm.

I hope that this is not sounding as a Facebook posting...

I have two pictures to share thi week.  A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned about taking pictures with a dedicated lens for a week and that the first week was a 50mm lens.  This past week, it was a 100mm Macro lens, which is used for very close up pictures and it was used to capture the following; a drop of water from an icicle.  (Cont'd below the picture)

The next picture is the source of the icicle and the reason for the trip to Ellijay.  It was taken with a different lens, which is a 17-50mm zoom lens.  By using the 17mm end of the lens, it allows the wider angle to capture more of the scene.  Click on the picture to view is in a larger format.

Week 4

Do you know what I like about gas fireplace logs???  EVERYTHING!  Just turn on the gas, light it, and enjoy.  No muss--no fuss.

Last evening was on its way to waking up to 14 degrees this morning, which for us wimps in Georgia is, for a lack of a better word of disgust, unconscionable.

Linda asked for the fireplace to be lit while we watched television.  It was enjoyable to watch the flames lick and the logs.  I know...'it is not the real thing.'  Moxie (a soda drink found in New England) is not the real thing either, but I like it far more than Coke.

Week 3

This week, I have a 'twofer.'  I have committed to posting a picture each week on the blog and I added a short term goal as well, which is to shoot all pictures using the same lens a week.

This week was my 50mm prime lens.  Prime lens are fixed focal lengths (50mm this week) as compared to a Zoom lens, which, as you would guess, can zoom to different focal lengths.

I found this rock in an old cemetery and then put it on the trunk of my car to photograph it.  I liked the rock itself, but the reflection and the shadow seemed to add much to the photo.

Week 2

I was lucky to get this photo.  I went out for lunch and at the last minute decide to go by this pond, which is located near work and is a nice way to spend a peaceful lunch.  The pond was frozen and one can see how the wind must have been quite strong to move the water while in the process of freezing.  I could not get the reflection because the goose was too close to the shore.

A number of 'captions' came to mind.  One of which is, "I bet those birds at Duck Dynasty can't walk on water."

Week 1

This picture was taken from the Bourbon Street Grille in Dahlonega, GA.  The building in the picture is the Courthouse in the center of town, which houses the Gold Museum.  The window, from which I took the picture, was next to our table and it had a 'Trestle' grille pattern with different colored glass.  I cropped the photo to fit it to the grille pattern in the window.
